A Samsung executive confirmed in an interview with the Korea Times that Samsung is going to unveil its smartwatch, the Galaxy Gear, as well as the Note III at the IFA event in Berlin next week.
Lee Young-hee, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business, stated that the Galaxy Gear will not feature a flexible display as was earlier assumed, and that it will run on Android. He also mentioned, “we are confident that the Gear will add meaningful momentum to the mobile industry.”
The Galaxy Gear will likely come in a variety of colors, and will be able to connect to Samsung’s Galaxy range of mobile devices via Bluetooth 4.0 LE or NFC. It is also likely to include sensors that track a user’s vitals. In terms of hardware, the Galaxy Gear is assumed to have a 2.5-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 320X320. The smartwatch might feature an Exynos 4212 dual core 1.5GHz CPU with Mali-400 MP4 GPU, along with a camera that is embedded into the mechanism of the watch itself.
Coming over to the Galaxy Note III, the device will feature a 5.68-inch full-HD AMOLED display, a 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 or an octa-core Exynos 5420 according to the country the device will be launched in, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal memory along with a micro-SD card slot, 13-megapixel rear camera, 3,200 mAh battery and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
Samsung will officially announce both devices at the IFA event on September 4th.
