Samsung Galaxy NX lands in US in October, promises to burn a whole in your pocket

Any eccentric oil barons with a thing for photography out there? How about folks that haven’t had to worry about making ends meet in their lives? Recent lotto winners? Rock stars? Talk show hosts?

Well, if you don’t fit any of the descriptions above, the Samsung Galaxy NX is probably not for you. The first interchangeable-lens camera to come powered by Android has been officially priced and is due to land in the US in October for a whopping $1,700.

That’s with a bundled 18-55 mm lens, while if you want to save a few bucks you can always go for the camera body only for the much more affordable $1,600 (sarcasm alert). That’s highway robbery, you say? Probably, though it’s not like anyone expected the Galaxy NX to cost 500 or 1,000 bucks.

And as redonkulous and ludicrous as it might sound, this outstanding piece of technology is almost worth all that moolah. That’s not to say you should buy it. Seriously, if you’re even considering forking out what in some countries is the six-month minimum wage for a camera and you’re not a paparazzi for People Magazine, you probably need a checkup. Fast.

Just for the sake of discussion though, I’ll grant you that the Galaxy NX is indeed the best of both worlds – that of smart devices and DSLRs (digital single-lens reflex cameras). It runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, comes with Wi-Fi, LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, 2 GB of RAM, a 4.8-inch HD screen, quad-core 1.6 GHz processor, but at the same time a 20.3 MP APS-S sensor and imaging capabilities, features and functions that I can’t even wrap my head around.

So how about it, guys and gals? Anyone tempted to throw any shadow of common sense in the recycle bin and score this worth-its-weight-in-gold gizmo?
