VGChartz has recently compiled sales figures for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 pre-orders made in the United States all the way up to Aug. 24.The timeframe includes the week of Gamescom–one of the largest premiere gaming conventions of the year wherein many reveals were made that swayed the gaming community’s choice, especially Sony’s announcement of the PS4′s official release date.
The figures themselves are approximations of pre-order sales made only in the United States, and have been compiled in order to compare and estimate the current general positions of each console in the market before their release.
The PlayStation 4 currently dominates the charts with around 600,000 pre-orders–a substantial jump from the previous pre-E3 estimates which were around 75,000 pre-orders–whereas Microsoft’s Xbox One contender has 350,000 pre-orders.
The numbers have been on the rise after major gaming events like E3 and Gamescom, as the shows give consumers an influx of information and showcase each console’s integral features along with the expansive lineup for each system. Acclaim for the PS4 has risen incredibly in the past few months, with multiple retailers selling out their launch day consoles and offering bundles instead.
Demand for Microsoft’s Xbox One has also been on the rise, and the next-gen war is stimulating the gaming community–as well as the overall global marketplace–and the release of both consoles looks to be one of the most memorable launches in quite some time.
Along with the pre-order sales figures for both next-gen consoles, data for upcoming PS4 and Xbox One titles have been compiled as well, with major AAA titles like Battlefield 4 and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag topping the charts.

Some of these figures are quite surprising to say the least, especially the low pre-order status of well-received Xbox One exclusives like Titanfall and RYSE: Son of Rome–both of which have been garnered with prestige and acclaim by gaming outlets. Ubisoft will have high stakes in the next-gen battle with their impressive pirate-themed sequel and the open-world techno-stealth adventure, each of which look to be Game of the Year material.
It will be interesting to see the pre-order figures as the release day for each console nears, and we may see an improvement in Xbox One sales when Microsoft formally announces a release date.
The global pre-order numbers would also be interesting to see, as gamers across Europe (and the rest of the world) have no-doubt made their decisions after Gamescom concluded in Cologne, Germany. Sony’s next-gen titan has claimed dominion on pre-order sales, and it may very well win the high-stakes console war upon release.
