Okay, we all knew this was coming, so let’s not even pretend to be surprised. GooPhone, a Chinese OEM specialized in ripping off Apple designs, is reportedly working on an iPhone 5C clone already, which they are planning to launch as soon as next month.
How is that possible? Well, it’s not like Cupertino kept iPhone 5C’s looks under lock and key. In fact, every blogger, news writer or even simple web surfer with basic Googling skills on the face of the earth is probably familiar with the “budget” iPhone and its outward appearance since before summer settled in.
With that in mind, do you really imagine a Chinese smartphone manufacturer that, again, has made a name for itself from building iPhone knock-offs didn’t know everything there was to know about the 5C way ahead of everyone else? That’s what I thought.
Now, in lack of an official pic of the device, we’ll have to rely on the above pasted mockup to get a sense of how the GooPhone i5C will look from the outside. Not bad… for a clone, more so given the i5C is expected to cost roughly $99.
Of course, on the inside GooPhone’s copycat will not resemble the new iPhone in any way and cut more than just a few corners. Namely, rumor has it the hardware will include a sub-par dual-core 1.2 GHz MediaTek CPU, 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB of on-board storage and a 2,000 mAh battery.
On top of it all, there will be pre-loaded Android 4.2 Jelly Bean (not to be snarky or anything, but that’s where the student becomes the master), a 4-inch 960 x 540 pixels resolution screen (yuck!), plus dual 8 MP/2 MP cameras, 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity.

Ahem, dare I say all in all that’s not so terrible for a $100 phone? Okay, I won’t say it, but come on, be honest, you’re thinking it.
