Chromecast app for iOS released, lets you setup and manage the HDMI dongle

Google today released the official Chromecast app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The app can be used to setup and manage various settings of the $35 HDMI dongle that Google released last month.

Chromecast was released last month. It is a HDMI dongle that connects to a television and allows users to literally “cast” content such as movies and TV shows from their mobile devices or computers to their television set. It works with both iOS and Android. The Chromecast app for Android has already been out for a couple of weeks, its features are similar to the iOS app, which was released today.

The official Chromecast app allows you to configure basic settings, such as configuring the dongle to work with your Wi-Fi network. Additional settings such as Wi-Fi password and device name can also be managed from this app.*The app will also display all of the Chromecast dongles connected to your Wi-Fi network and will display their status, if they’re ready to cast content to.*It supports content from Netflix, Google Play Store, YouTube and the Chrome web browser.*Chromecast for iOS is available as a free download from iTunes App Store. It requires that your device must be running iOS 5.1 firmware or higher.
