Samsung to produce metal-encased Galaxy S V alongside a plastic one

A report out of Korea is stating that Samsung will have two Galaxy S V versions ready by February or March 2014.

The top tier model will purportedly boast a flexible display along with a metal encasing, whereas, the company’s ‘mid-range’ S5 handset will sport the standard AMOLED and plastic shell.* Both are expected to run similar hardware underneath it all: a 64bit octa-core setup, 3GB of RAM, and a 4,000mAh battery.

Samsung is doing what it can to mock Apple lately, and perhaps the ‘premium’ vs. ‘plastic’ S5 is just a part of that scheme.* Not too long ago, Apple released the iPhone 5C, which many referred to as the budget or ‘cheap’ iPhone because of its plastic exterior.* We’re not saying that Samsung will mimic this model and slap the ‘C’ label onto their precious Galaxy brand, but we may see a similar business model somewhere down the line when the two S5 handsets launches.

Some have criticized Samsung for not taking a more active approach to making their flagship handsets feel more ‘high-class’ by ditching plastic and use aluminum or other alloy for the shell.* The next Galaxy S device will be a change up for its consumer base if the rumors are indeed true.* Although, there would be a problem if Samsung decides it wants to price the plastic S5 close to that of its top-tier metal-encased product. *Check out our S5 rumor round up here.
