Apple Retail Stores generate 11 percent of all cellphone sales in the U.S.

Apple makes some of the most sought after cellphones as well as stores to sell them in, the result of which is a strong foothold over cellphone sales in the U.S.

According to a recent survey conducted by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, Apple Retail Stores in the U.S. generate 11 percent of all cellphone retail sales in the country, the figure includes both feature phones and smartphones. The figure indicates just how popular Apple’s iPhones are in the U.S., considering the fact that the only cellphones Apple sells through its retail stores are the ones it makes.

Major retailer Best Buy generates the highest percentage of retail cellphone sales in the U.S., roughly 13 percent. The thing to keep in mind here is that Best Buy is a retailer and it sells feature phones as well as smartphones from a wide variety of manufacturers, including but not limited to Apple’s iPhones.*Best Buy obviously drives a lot of foot traffic which generates sales, thus both Samsung and Apple have built stores-within-stores inside Best Buy locations to capitalize on potential customers.

Other major retailers such as Target, Costco and Walmart also generate significant cellphone sales in the U.S., though not as much as Best Buy or Apple. These retailers collectively account for 12 percent of all sales, that’s almost equal to what Best Buy and Apple generate on their own.
