Gionee announces Elife E7 with 16-megapixel camera

Gionee’s latest flagship handset boasts high-end features and will be available in select countries from January 2014.

Gionee has its sights sights set on the burgeoning mobile market in India, which it looks to tackle with its latest handset, the Elife E7.

The Elife E7 is a 5.5-inch full-HD device that comes with a pixel density of 400 ppi and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The 2.3 mm bezel means that although the screen size is 5.5-inches, the device is not too unwieldy. There will be two variations of the device that will be sold, one with 4G connectivity and the other with 3G connectivity. The 4G model, called Elife E7L, comes with a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 SoC while the 3G variant, Elife E7, features the 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800. The Elife E7L will be the first device to feature the 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 800 (8974AC) SoC.

Other hardware details on the Eife E7 include 2 GB RAM for the 16 GB variant and 3 GB RAM for the 32 GB version. Then there is a 16-megapixel camera at the back along with an 8-megapixel camera at the front of the device. Gionee has added a lot of shooting modes and features to its camera UI, like intelligent scene detection, action shot and meeting memo mode. In terms of connectivity, you get Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and micro-USB 2.0.

The Elife E7 comes with a 2,500 mAh non-removable battery and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on Gionee’s own Amigo 2.0 custom skin. The device will be available in a total of five color variations that include black, white, blue, pink, green, yellow, and orange. Gionee will sell the 16 GB Elife E7 for $440, and the 32 GB for $520. In countries like India, this falls squarely in the price segment the Nexus 5 is selling for.
