The 2014 Summer anime season is already in full gear and Sony has just released the initial Tornado rankings for the season. These rankings are based on the anime recorded*using the Torne digital recording app*for the PlayStation 3 and 4, PlayStation Vita, and the PC.
The rankings are only gathered from the Torne devices used within the Tokyo area*which have*recorded approximately 15,800 Torr. Approximately 100,000 people use the app during weekdays and 330,000 every month. Here are the results:

Should we even be surprised that SAO II gets the top spot? Love it or hate it, it’s the most popular anime in Japan right now as the Tornado rankings have shown.#2 ranked Terror in Resonance has shocked clear favorites Tokyo Ghoul, Akame Ga Kill, and Aldnoah.Zero with its rather interesting plot which surrounds two boys plotting terrorism against Japan leading up to a cat-and-mouse game which has been already been compared to Death Note.Fan-favorite Tokyo Ghoul meanwhile takes the #3 spot while fellow gore series Akame Ga Kill, another fan-favorite only takes #6 as it bows down to the surprisingly popular Rail Wars! and Gen Urobuchi’s Aldnoah.Zero which has already shown why the writer is one of the most celebrated people in the anime industry.It is also a bit peculiar that two particular series have not even been mentioned in these initial rankings and they are Free! Eternal Summer and Sailor Moon Crystal. For the latter, it*may be because Sailor Moon Crystal only airs once every two weeks.
