Samsung's Galaxy Alpha shows its metal body in leaked photos

The leaked photos and details reveal that the Galaxy Alpha might not be as metallic or flagship-like as everyone had hoped.

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Alpha, expected to be the company’s first metal-clad Android smartphone, has been leaked in live photos by two different sources.

The first set of photos come from SamMobile, showing the Galaxy Alpha from*every angle – according to the Samsung-dedicated website, the Galaxy Alpha keeps the perforated plastic back (but with smaller dimples) of the Galaxy S5, but has a metal (aluminium) frame on the sides. It’s not the all-metal design many would have liked, but it’s likely the Korean manufacturer decided to play it safe for its first metal Android phone and could get more comfortable using the premium material on future handsets.

The images also confirm that the Galaxy Alpha will be smaller than the Galaxy S5, with reportedly a 4.7-inch screen that’s similar to the one used on the Galaxy S III (suggesting a 720p Super AMOLED unit.) Other features are said to include a fingerprint scanner (with its position switched to the left of the camera), 32GB of non-expandable storage – it will also be the first Samsung phone to sport a nano SIM slot, and SamMobile believes that the Alpha is meant as an iPhone 6 killer.

However, with reports of a limited retail run for the Galaxy Alpha, it remains to be seen if the Galaxy Alpha will do anything to make Apple worry. Rather, Samsung will probably be in more danger of seeing its flagship sales get affected because of the larger screen on the iPhone 6. The Galaxy Alpha is expected to be unveiled in August, though as always, nothing is official until it’s official.
