Hang on to your hats and get that popcorn popping, ladies and gents, because the Nexus 5 rumor parade is refusing to draw to a close. And the funny thing is we can’t look away. We just cannot.
Before sinking our teeth in the latest round of speculation, brought to you by @EvLeaks (who else?), how about a quick recap to make sure we’re all on the same page? Right, so in a nutshell we still have no idea when is the N5 to go official.
It could happen later today, tomorrow, the day after, on November 1 or as late as November 5. Probably not later though, because one of these days the hype is bound to die down. A number of retailers are said to be stocking N5 units already, so the commercial launch is not far down the road, with black and white models likely landing at around the same time.
Then there’s the question of pricing, which may depend a great deal on whether or not Big G decides to keep the N4 around and slap an LTE modem on the one year-old. As far as specs go, there’s little we don’t know following the service manual surfacing from three weeks or so back, which brings us to today’s order of business.
Possibly to signal there’s no longer doubt, @EvLeaks has tweeted earlier today what could be interpreted as a final list of Nexus 5 features. The highlights are a quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU (likely clocked at 2.3 GHz), 1,080p 4.95-inch screen (445 ppi) and pre-loaded Android 4.4 KitKat.
The camera, which was the subject of plenty of conflicting stories in the past, will apparently “only” come with an 8 MP sensor in tow, but at least there will be optical image stabilization to go with it. The battery used to be a major subject of debate too, though frankly I never bought the gossip about Big G prepping different Nexus 5 versions with differently sized tickers. So ultimately, 2,300 mAh is no shocker.
Other features tipped on Twitter include Bluetooth 4.0 and dual-band Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, yet surprisingly there’s no mention of RAM or 4G LTE speeds. Innocent oversight, ominous hint or encouraging sign? No idea, but I’m pretty sure this is good news: the LG-made N5 will be skinnier than the G2, measuring 8.6 mm in thickness.
