Apple: Future OS X upgrades will be free

Future Mac OS X release will be free.* That’s right, ‘free.’

Mac users, up until the recent release of OS X Maverick, had to shell out a few coins every once in a while to get their machines up to date with the latest software.* When Apple announced that Maverick would be a free upgrade, many were quite happy that Tim Cook and company decided to offer up the new OS at no cost to their loyal followings.

The Apple good will news doesn’t even there, as Apple’s CFO Peter Oppenheimer has confirmed that future OS X versions will also be free during today’s earning call.* According to Apple, it’ll cost the company in the realm of $900 million to deliver these free goodies, which includes other software like iWork.
