Well, Google just put the kibosh on all the speculation about Key Lime Pie. The next Android version will instead be called KitKat, kicking off a new tradition of naming Android releases after chocolates as total Android device activations cross the one billion mark.
No, Nestle won’t be suing Google to oblivion for stealing the name of their popular chocolate. Instead, the former has teamed up with Mountain View for this most surprising happening (which makes the Nokia buyout by Microsoft seem quiet uninteresting) – special Android-branded KitKat packaging will soon be seen in stores, and those checking the wrapper will be able to win a Nexus 7 or Google Play credit.
Google has already put up a new statue on its campus grounds, and also launched a webpage which goes through the history of Android releases. However, the search giant isn’t*letting out any details on what KitKat will bring, other than stating their goal of making it “an amazing Android experience available for everybody.” The Android version accompanying KitKat will be 4.4, not 5.0.
