No Snapdragon 800 power, but very advanced fingerprint recognition technology. Uncomfortably large 5.9-inch display, but full-metal body. Overpriced but packing UltraPixel camera and massive battery. That’s the HTC One Max in a nutshell and there’s no use pretending we don’t know all that about it and more.
Yet what’s still unclear is when will HTC officially make it official and throw it in the savage phablet arena, where it shall fight for survival against such giants as Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 and Sony’s Xperia Z Ultra.
Well, it can’t be long now. And not just because it started making the rumor rounds back when the gold iPhone 5s was just a myth and everyone still believed the 5c was to be “affordable”. But also based on its China-specific 809d variant’s very recent Tenaa approval.
Tenaa, as some of you know already, is essentially the local counterpart of the American FCC, so before any major release in China a stamp of approval from the agency is needed.
Now, according to some sources that aren’t however very trustworthy, the HTC One Max will be released on October 15. Wait, released released as in made available commercially or released as in introduced to the world with no details on ETAs and pricing? Sadly, the “sources” don’t say, but it’s probably the latter.
Oh, well, that would still at least leave enough time for the 5.9-incher to see daylight ahead of the holidays. Remember, China will likely be getting a flavor with dual-SIM support, microSD card slot and removable back cover, whereas the rest of the world will have to settle for a sealed model sans storage expansion.

All the rest of the features are set to be identical, including an S4 Pro or Snapdragon 600 chip, Full HD jumbo-sized screen, pre-loaded Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Sense UI on top, 2 GB RAM and 3,200 mAh battery. Not bad, though not very game-changing either, am I right?
