Big G is taking its Android L/Nexus 6/Nexus 9 hype-building campaign to new vagueness heights, but fortunately, we’re likely a day or so away from the three’s official launches.
As cute and charming as Google’s newest trio of Android video commercials might be, it’s time the search giant stopped playing games. It was fun for a while, but now it’s all becoming a little tiring. We’re sick of riddles and puzzles, and above all, we’re fed up with trying to guess the dessert name of the next Android flavor.
After dropping consistent Lollipop hints, Google flipped the page and instructed designer Giovanni Calabrese to heavily tease Licorice. Calabrese is one of the sculptors responsible for the creation of the Android statues residing on Google’s Mountain View lawn, and apparently, he’s on a mission to restore some of the old art pieces as we speak, plus conceive a new one.
Obviously, he thus knows better than anyone if L stands for Lollipop, Lion, Lemon Meringue Pie or Licorice, but there’s no way to be sure he isn’t playing us himself.

Ah, who cares? We’re far more excited about the imminent Nexus 6 smartphone and 9 tablet, which you can unmistakably spot in two of Google’s latest three Android ads. The N6 starrer is hands down the funniest, revolving around a very short guy with a particular taste in gadgets.
Namely, he defies his height challenge and rocks a gigantic phablet, which just so happens to look a lot like the 2014 Moto X with Android L-specific navigation buttons.
Meanwhile, the second commercial shines a quick spotlight on the HTC-made N9 (look closely at the blond dude in the RV), but some eagle-eyed hardcore Android lovers could be able to see as many as five devices in the hands (and ears) of… these creatures.

One is clearly the N6, one a smaller phone (perhaps the Droid Turbo?), a third (or fourth) a mysterious smartwatch, and finally, a Moto Hint-like wireless earbud. Wait, so might Google have something up its sleeve aside from the Nexus 6, 9 and Android L?
It’s entirely possible, and because we’re on the subject of future Nexus devices, let us mention HTC’s Jeff Gordon joined Google’s cryptic buzz-building movement, tweeting the photo of… a box. A non-descript box containing “something amazing, beautiful and highly confidential”. Sounds like the Nexus 9 alright.
