iOS 8.1 coming this Monday

On October 20th, iOS 8.1 will be released for all supported iPhone, iPad and iPod touch models.

In just about a month Apple has*developed the next big update for iOS 8.0. The latest mobile*software was first unveiled back at WWDC 2014 in June.*After the announcement it was put through a lengthy beta program in which developers tried out the software and got their apps ready. iOS 8.0 was released to the public last month and it came already installed on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Whatever feedback Apple received from customers, it has used it in order to further improve the software through iOS 8.1.

At its iPad event Apple confirmed that iOS 8.1 is going to be released for all supported devices on Monday, this Monday, October 20th.*It brings a couple of new features and improvements, though there’s not much in terms of radical changes.

Apple has finally listened to users who were complaining about the Camera Roll being taken away in iOS 8.0. Now iOS 8.1 brings back the Camera Roll and it would be right where it has always been.

Apple Pay is perhaps the biggest feature that this release brings. Apple’s payments service is going live soon and iOS 8.1 is going to activate support in both iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The service requires Touch ID and NFC for point of sale transactions and the required hardware is already present in Apple’s latest smartphones.

iCloud Photo Library has also been added to iOS 8.1 but it will remain in beta for now. The feature brings all pictures taken across all Apple devices in one place and any edits or changes made on one device is automatically synced across all devices. 5GB of storage is free and there are plans up to 1TB for folks who want to shift all of their photos and videos to the cloud.

iOS 8.1 will start rolling out on Monday.
