Apple releases OS X Yosemite

After months in developer and public beta OS X 10.10 is finally ready for public consumption.

Yosemite is arguably one of the biggest updates ever for Mac. It has a whole new look and feel which is much more consistent with that of iOS 8, Apple’s latest mobile release, and both software now share some common design elements. However the buck does not stop at design. Apple has introduced a whole lot of new features in Yosemite many of which were first showed off back at WWDC 2014 in June where Yosemite was unveiled for the first time.

Native Mac applications have been revamped in OS X 10.10. They now have a simpler look with lots of new powerful features. Safari gets a new design complete with a birdseye tab view. Tweaks made under the hood improve its performance and even reduce energy consumption on MacBooks. Typing in Safari no longer only pulls up results from Google search, the new and improved Spotlight is integrated within the browser. It also uses Extensions to share content straight from within Safari to other applications installed on the computer.

Significant improvements have been made to the Mail application. It has a feature called Markup which quickly lets users annotate an image or a PDF. Its even possible to fill out a form within the Mail app and include a digital signature. The Mail Drop feature allows users to email large attachments, as much as 5GB, completely encrypted through iCloud.

This is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. There are countless more features that Mac users will experience once they install OS X Yosemite. Apple’s latest desktop software update, OS X 10.10 Yosemite, is available as a free download right away from the Mac App Store.
