Bow to the battery king: Motorola Droid Turbo pictured in full red attire

The upcoming Verizon-exclusive Motorola flagship phone is dressed to impress, and it certainly has the right internals to go with the swanky outfit.

It’s funny just how much the public’s perception on a mobile manufacturing brand can change in little over 12 months. This same time last year the overpriced, not-customizable-enough Moto X looked like the final nail in Motorola’s coffin.

Now, the OEM that’s drifting between former Google ownership and future Lenovo management can do no wrong. The second-generation Moto G is the best in its class, hands down, the Moto E offers an even cheaper alternative with the same winning stock Android experience, and the Moto X 2014 basically corrected every little flaw of its predecessor, extravagant pricing included.

And then there’s perhaps the most dangerous Apple Watch rival, the Android Wear-running, round display-sporting Moto 360. Plus, a couple of smartphone powerhouses on the horizon that will make the “New” Moto X look like yesterday’s news.

The whale-like Shamu, aka Nexus 6 or Nexus X, probably needs no introduction after more revealing product leaks than we can count, while the Droid Turbo managed to keep a fairly low profile until recently, when an avalanche of inside information came tumbling down.

The latest entry in the once mighty, now hurting Verizon-unique Droid line is said to replace last year’s Droid Ultra and Maxx, bringing the best of both worlds together. And then some. So yes, a gigantic battery will likely juice up the 5.2 incher, but there’s a lot more going on under the hood that you should get psyched about.

Namely, a cutting-edge quad-core 2.7 GHz Snapdragon 805 processor is tipped to handle the most power-demanding tasks, aided by a generous 3 GB RAM. Oh, and did we mention Android 5.0 L will likely come pre-loaded or, worst case scenario, OTA before the holiday season?

Of course, the scandalously zippy S805 SoC, along with the Quad HD, yes, Quad HD display may sound like they’re defeating the purpose of a big-battery powerhouse. Only we’re talking a 3,900 mAh cell here, so QHD or no QHD, the lights will be on for days in a row.

And the cherry on top, if we are to trust a photo revealed by Verizon’s very own @DroidLanding Twitter handle and then quickly deleted, is a familiar-looking, robust Kevlar rear cover coated in red. Most definitely, in black too. What say you, boys and girls with an eye for fashion? Does Droid Turbo’s exterior evoke that warm feeling inside power users get when fantasizing of S805/3 GB RAM hardware configurations?
