The new music streaming service joins the likes of Pandora, iTunes Radio and Spotify.
There is absolutely no shortage of music streaming services. Last year Apple launched its very own service, iTunes Radio, clearly wanting to bring millions of its customers to its own service as opposed to the rivals who have been servicing this industry for a long time. Pandora is one of the major players in this market, trailed by the likes of Spotify and Rdio.*One might think that there isn’t a need for a new service right now, by Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine think otherwise. Known globally for its premium audio products, Beats Music has now ventured into the world of music streaming.
Beats Music has gone in a different direction as opposed to its rivals, billing itself as a “new kind of streaming service,” it offers a library of more than 20 million songs that are available for streaming as well as offline listening. Users get a free 7 day trial, a monthly subscription for Beats Music costs $9.99.
The Beats Music iOS app has now been launched, apart from listing popular music by genre, the app also has a “Highlights” section which displays popular music from the service’s community. It also has a “Just For You” section, which tailors playlists based on the user’s preferences.*”Right Now” is a feature that acts like a blank slate, it recommends music based on a variety of factors, such as the user’s location, their mood, people they’re with and their favorite genres. The service focuses on discovery in a way that its rivals don’t, which just might give it a leg up on the competition.*Beats Music for iOS is free to download from the App Store.
