Which tragic anime had the most miserable ending? Fans weigh in

Sometimes, several anime series receive a bad ending where the protagonist dies or gets his/her heart broken or just has his/her life go from bad to worse. Sometimes, these moments make us cry, and sometimes, our hearts get ripped every time we hear the titles of these series with sad endings.
Japanese rankings website, Goo, recently asked 500 people (250 male and 250 female) to rank which anime had the most miserable ending, and a total of 49 anime were included in the results. Here are the Top 21:

The poll asked fans which anime was the one they found to be most miserable, and if you’ve watched Grave of the Fireflies, which is a masterpiece of a film, you would definitely tear up and know just how miserable life can be during World War II Japan.Meanwhile, legendary director, Gundam creator, and all-around sourpuss, Yoshiyuki “Kill’em All” Tomino showed exactly why they nicknamed him “Kill’em All Tomino” with Space Runaway Ideon, with the mecha anime taking second place, with historical manga, The Rose of Versailles taking third.
