No other Android top dog around, not even Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4, can compare to the powerhouse of all powerhouses – Motorola’s Verizon-exclusive Droid Turbo.
If you feel yourself drooling over the spec sheet of Google and Motorola’s Nexus 6, hands down the biggest, baddest handheld in Nexus history, wait until you see what Moto’s other late 2014 flagship has in store.
Of course, most of the features we’ll round up in the following lines broke cover already, so the wow factor isn’t as compelling as it could’ve been. Still, seeing them all in one place is bound to leave a mark, and make you think twice before purchasing the iPhone 6 Plus or Galaxy Note 4.
Yes, the Droid Turbo has the drop on both those beasts, plus whatever Android high-ender you can think of, past, present and probably future too. Not excessively large, at 5.2 inches, the Kevlar-reinforced device sports Quad HD screen resolution for a record-breaking 565 ppi pixel density.
In comparison, the Note 4 “barely” comes in at 515 ppi, and the 6 Plus is a genuine featherweight, with 401 pixels per inch. Speaking of weight, that’s one number we’re yet to enter in possession of, but amazingly enough, the Turbo doesn’t look chunky.
Why is that so amazing? Because this bad boy packs a gigantic 3,900 mAh battery, good for a whopping 48 hours of continuous use. The juicer can even be charged wirelessly, and thanks to a Turbo Charger accessory offered as standard, you only need 15 minutes to get 8 hours’ worth of power on it.
If endurance fails to leave you gasping for air, robustness should definitely do the trick, as you’re dealing with a phone that’s not only covered in tough Kevlar, but also “metallized glass fiber”. Marketing mumbo-jumbo aside, the Droid Turbo breathes build quality and brawn through its every pore, supposedly resisting scratches, everyday water spills and up to 20 minutes in a “downpour”.
Oh, and did we mention the thing uses a cutting-edge quad-core 2.7 GHz Snapdragon 805 processor for speed, aided by 3 GB RAM for multitasking? Meanwhile, the 21 megapixel rear-facing camera with dual LED flash and 4K video capture is the mother of all smartphone imaging tools, and the software is just the right amount of customized.
Not exactly vanilla, Android 4.4 comes with a slew of Motorola-specific tweaks and add-ons, Moto Voice, Display and Actions included, plus exclusive Zap apps that, you’ll see, will come in mighty handy.
Needless to point out the puzzle looks almost entirely solved, save for the pricing piece, which Motorola and Verizon plan to expose on October 28. Unless we can track it down ourselves in the meantime, like we did with everything else. Be smart, Big Red, take the covers off earlier. The hype can only dwindle from this point.
