HTC Nexus 9 could be announced on October 15, priced at $399

Google might not be aiming for an affordable price with its upcoming Nexus tablet, according to a new report.

Following months of rumors, the HTC Nexus 9 was recently confirmed to be real and launching by the end of this year in documents published by Nvidia (documents that were later corrected to remove all references to the tablet.) Now, Bright Side of News is reporting that the Nexus 9 could officially break cover on October 15, with a price tag of $399.

Nothing is confirmed at this point, but that price tag would mean the Nexus 9 would be the first Nexus tablet that doesn’t follow Google’s penchant for offering high-end hardware and selling it at cost. That wouldn’t be too surprising though, considering the device is expected to be powered by Nvidia’s Tegra K1 processor, which is – for all intents and purposes – the fastest mobile chipset in the market right now, beating even Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 in overall performance.

Furthermore, the October 15 announcement could mean that Google won’t be holding a dedicated event for launching the Nexus 9, as it’s probably a bit too late to be sending out press invites. As for when the tablet will go on sale, that will likely happen sometime in November, a month the search giant has reserved for launching most of its Nexus devices. Of course, none of this is confirmed, but with the Nexus 9 continuing to make unofficial appearances, it shouldn’t be long before we all get to see what HTC has cooked up in its return to the tablet market.
