iPhone 6 benchmarks are nothing to write home about

Purported iPhone 6 benchmarks from Geekbench reveal specs that don’t impress on paper.

Android smartphones from Apple’s rival manufacturers now tout meaty quadcore processors and up to 3GB RAM. While the actual performance of the device has a lot to do with how both hardware and software work with each other, these sort of specifications sound really good on paper and play a pivotal role in attracting the crowd that purchases smartphones based on the amount of RAM or the number of processing cores.

Apple has a tradition of not talking too much about the RAM and processor package in its mobile devices. We usually see no mention of the RAM when new iPhones and iPads are released and its possible that this may happen today as well when the iPhone 6 is finally unveiled in Cupertino.

Purported iPhone 6 specifications were spotted on Geekbench where the device was revealed to have a quadcore processor with just 1GB of RAM. That’s not going to impress customers that have already seen Samsung and LG push the envelope with quad and octacore processors coupled with up to 3GB of RAM.

But we know that Apple places its bets on the device’s actual performance as opposed to how good specifications look on paper. Its aim is to make both hardware and software work with each other in a fashion that users don’t necessarily feel the lack of punch, even when a greater amount of RAM would ensure that they don’t have to close background apps and wait for mobile Safari pages to reload when the browser is fired up from the background.

In just a few hours Apple is going to take the stage at the Flint Center in Cupertino to show off its new iPhones. We’ll get the final word on its new smartphone’s specs soon enough.
