5.5-Inch iPhone 6 will be called iPhone 6 Plus

This will reportedly be the first product to get Plus in its name after the Mac Plus.

Today is the day we finally get to know what Apple is going to call its new iPhone, but here’s a last rumor for you. Word on the street is that Apple is going with the iPhone 6 Plus moniker for the 5.5-inch model. As previously mentioned the last Apple product to have Plus in its name was the Mac Plus, so it has been quite a while since this particular phrase has been used.

Perhaps this release calls for it, given the fact that this might be the first time the iPhone’s display pushes past the 5-inch point. The other model that Apple is expected to show off today is believed to have a 4.7-inch display and rumor has it that this model will simply be called the iPhone 6.

Last year Apple shook up its iPhone lineup by launching two new models side by side, it called them iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. There has been little evidence to support that the same naming scheme will be used for both upcoming iPhones. Another rumor suggested that perhaps the larger iPhone 6 model will be called iPhone 6L, but there’s no confirmation of that.

Fortunately we only have to wait for a few hours as the iPhone 6 event begins at 10 am PDT in Cupertino today. Before this day is over we’ll know for sure what the new iPhones are called.
