Apple officially announces iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus phablet

It’s official, Apple is now in the phablet market. The Cupertino-based company just announced the arrival of the iPhone 6 Plus, a 5.5-inch device that will contend with the likes of Samsung’s Note line. The company also announced a refresh of its ‘normal-sized’ phones with the iPhone 6. Both phones come packaged with Apple’s A8 chip, which the company claims is 25% faster than its predecessor.

This time around, Apple chose to integrate NFC into its new phones, making it possible for consumers to make credit card payments using just the phone at NFC-enabled kiosks. The iPhone 6 is only 6.6 millimeters thick, and the bigger Plus model is 7.1 millimeters.

On the display-end, the phone Retina displays are ‘ion-strengthened’, and the front-side camera has been beefed to make FaceTime a more pleasant experience.

The iPhone 6 will run for $199 with a two-year contract, while the iPhone 6 Plus will be $299. Pre-order begins on September 12th, and the devices ship out on the 19th.
