Sony keeps dropping Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact hints, Z3/Z3 Compact phones also teased

It’s no longer a big mystery, Sony plans to take next week’s IFA consumer electronics trade show by storm, using the glamorous Berlin stage to propel at least three new Android devices in the limelight.

Let’s face it, truly accidental product leaks are a much rarer thing than most people reckon. More often than not, manufacturers control the leakage to a certain degree, sometimes spilling the beans themselves without using intermediaries to cover their tracks.

Case in point, the upcoming Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. Revealed inconspicuously in a user guide for a lackluster Bluetooth speaker/charging dock last week, the portable 8 incher was further showcased in a picture hyping the Sony Smart Band and then its name was again mentioned in an official Xperia Z2 Tablet product webpage.

Coincidence? Innocent blunder? You know what they say, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, fool me thrice, um, just unveil the slate already. It’s not like we don’t know a thing or two about it.

I mean, we can’t be sure, but rumor is we’re looking at perhaps the beefiest Android of that pocket-sized footprint ever, with a stunning 1,920 x 1,080 pix res Triluminos screen in tow, quad-core 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 801 chip and 3 GB RAM under the hood.

Plus, the now customary waterproofing features, pretty much confirmed in the IFA teaser video embedded below. The fast-paced but fairly vague clip uses the number 3 as a sort of motto, authenticating Sony has a trio of gadgets in the pipeline – the Z3 Tablet Compact, plus Z3 and Z3 Compact handhelds.

Unless 3 actually refers to the gizmos’ branding, and a third-generation SmartWatch is also incoming. Maybe a large Xperia Z3 Tablet too. In any case, water is heavily featured in the promo (including in a chemical H2O formula) for obvious reasons, and the September 3 announcement date is quite fitting.

The rest of the video is a little harder to decipher, although Sony seems to be implying one or several of these soon-to-be-revealed products will measure 7 mm in thickness and pack batteries that “keep going” regardless of energy used up. Okay, bring them on, we’re ready.
