Samsung launches the Galaxy S Duos 2 in India for $175

The Galaxy S Duos 2 doesn’t feature radically different hardware from the Galaxy S Duos, but its pricing will attract a lot of new customers.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S Duos 2 without much fanfare. The device was directly listed on the Samsung India site, and is available for purchase now. Samsung has seen a lot of success with the Galaxy S Duos, which was the bestselling Samsung device this year in India. With the Galaxy S Duos 2, it is looking to achieve a similar result.

The hardware on the Galaxy S Duos 2 is not significantly different from that of its predecessor. The Galaxy S Duos 2 features the same dimensions, the same 4.0-inch screen with a resolution of 800 x 480, the same amount of RAM at 768 MB and the same ROM (4 GB total, 1.8 GB available to user).

The similarities continue in the imaging section as the Galaxy S Duos 2 features the same 5 MP camera at the back. The front camera is slightly better, and can shoot 720p videos. The processor is also slightly faster at 1.2 GHz to the 1GHz on the Galaxy S Duos. In terms of connectivity, the only change is the inclusion of Bluetooth 4.0. Other features that have been retained include Wi-Fi, 3G and MicroUSB v2.0. The device comes with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, which is sure to be welcome news to customers.

The Galaxy S Duos 2 price has been set to a little over $175 (Rs. 10,999), and that price will be lowered once the device becomes available at various online retailers.
