Apacer-launched mini wide-temperature SSD successfully applies to UAVs

Resistance to shock, low noise and low power consumption - these are the superior physical properties of SSDs, which have become essential for satisfying the storage requirements of industrial computers. The application scope of SSDs on industrial computers has also expanded due to increasingly harsh market demands and advancing process technologies.

With the increasing prevalence of the concept of security, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have gradually been used for the purpose of national defense and monitoring It will be further developed in commercial applications, such as oil pipe monitoring, environment observation, aviation, communication transmission and other commercial applications. The importance of stability of a storage device is thus in top priority with such an exciting prospect.

On the basis of such demand, Apacer, the world's largest industrial SSD manufacturer, recently released a highly stable subminiature SSD – the μSDC-M Plus. Featuring a 64GB large capacity and high reading performance of 510MB/sec, it provides large storage space and highly efficient data transmission. In addition, its characteristics such as wide temperature (-40°C ~+85°C) and surface-mount technology (SMT) provide the most stable storage installation for observation and photography even in high altitude. Recently, it has been adopted by US tech giants for UAV applications.

Jeff Lin, Embedded Business Application Unit Director of Apacer, stressed that, “The μSDC-M Plus is innovatively adopts with BGA156 packaging technology, which integrates the controller /flash and related components into one single chip. The unique design reduces its size to 16x20x1.4mm, which is as small as a one dollar coin. Meanwhile, the adoption of SATA 3 6Gb/s interface allows a maximum capacity of 64GB. Compared with its peer products on the market which are mostly between 1.4 ~ 2 mm in thickness, the size of μSDC-M Plus is especially tiny.” Moreover, the integrated storage device also conforms to JEDEC MO-276 specification, which significantly streamlines the main configuration, so as to make the customer-end products lighter in the era of light and thin devices.

Second, the continuous reading speed of μSDC-M Plus is up to 510MB/sec, better than the performance of other similar products on the market, and it can be faster than the general speed of a general 2.5” SSD. Its dual advantages combining small volume and high speed can accelerate the speed of data transmission. With regard to reliability, μSDC-M Plus allows a wide-temperature range of -40°C ~ +85°C, which is resistant to extremely low as well as high temperature. The surface-mount technology (SMT) has 100% resistance to shock and dropping, perfectly suitable for taking aerial photos in harsh temperature or turbulence in high altitude flight environment. In addition, this product supports Native Command Queuing (NCQ) in order to simultaneously improve overall efficiency and service life. TRIM Command and 72bit/1K Bytes ECC also help optimize the performance and tolerability, making it more durable than any other storage devices.

With more than 10 years of experience in the SSD market, Apacer is famed for its stringent manufacturing quality, excellent customization capacity and timely technical supports. The firmware and major components can be fixed right after customer’s recognition and validation. This reduces the risks of out-of-stock and compatibility issues by providing customers with stable supply and high reliability.

Sony’s Xperia Z3 gets dismantled before official IFA launch

Just how many times have we seen a smartphone get taken apart before it is even announced officially? Not very often we’d say. But that’s exactly what we have here today. The Sony Xperia Z3 has been detailed in a collection of photos sent to Xperia blog.

Just like the previous Xperia flagships, the Z3 has also been a badly kept secret. Information and pictures of the device had been pouring in over the past few weeks and by now we know the complete specifications of the device.

The photos show Sony continuing to pursue its Omni-balance design philosophy with a few marked changes over the Xperia Z2. From what we can tell, Sony has shrunk the side bezels slightly over the Z2 in order to keep the dimensions as close to the Z2 as possible and at the same time reduced the thickness to a commendable 7.3mm. Now, we know 7.3mm may not sound like much of a feat but what you must keep in mind is that the Z3 features one of the largest camera sensors in a smartphone at 1/2.3” and also a hefty 3200mAh battery.

Another noticeable difference is the side frame. Unlike the shiny aluminum side frame on the Z2, there appears to be some sort of a matte metallic finish this time, lending it a more muted aesthetic appeal. The sides are also a lot more rounded this time and will definitely make the Z3 more ergonomically friendly in the hand. The rest of the buttons and ports are positioned the same as earlier.

Moving on to the tear down photos, we see the familiar Z series layout with a non-removable battery rated at 3100mAh. There also appear to be two sim card slots, which could indicate that the particular device pictured here could be a Chinese Or Asian variant. It would mark the first time Sony would launch a dual-sim flagship. We’ll know for sure next week, when Sony launches the Xperia Z3 and other new mobile devices at its IFA event in Berlin on September 3.

Apple Officially announces Sept. 9 iPhone event: 'wish we could say more'

Invites for the year’s most anticipated reveal event have been released!

As rumored yesterday, Apple has officially announced that they will indeed be holding their next major event on September 9th, 2014 – just under two weeks from today.

Unlike previous years, the invite image does not have anything subtly hinting of the event’s announcements. There is only a tasteful crop of the Apple logo, the full date, and a statement: “Wish we could say more.”

Apple doesn’t really need to say more, though. If rumors are anything to go by, we will see at least one new iPhone*- likely a 4.7″ model to compete with the latest Android offerings – and a new smart-watch / wearable device ‘iWatch’. As always, though, Apple will announce plenty of iOS and OS X related features and news, too!

Stay tuned to VR-Zone, folks! As we approach the final day, we expect more leaks and even stronger rumors to come out online; we will of course be covering all the important ones.

What are your expectations of the event?

Sony keeps dropping Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact hints, Z3/Z3 Compact phones also teased

It’s no longer a big mystery, Sony plans to take next week’s IFA consumer electronics trade show by storm, using the glamorous Berlin stage to propel at least three new Android devices in the limelight.

Let’s face it, truly accidental product leaks are a much rarer thing than most people reckon. More often than not, manufacturers control the leakage to a certain degree, sometimes spilling the beans themselves without using intermediaries to cover their tracks.

Case in point, the upcoming Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. Revealed inconspicuously in a user guide for a lackluster Bluetooth speaker/charging dock last week, the portable 8 incher was further showcased in a picture hyping the Sony Smart Band and then its name was again mentioned in an official Xperia Z2 Tablet product webpage.

Coincidence? Innocent blunder? You know what they say, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, fool me thrice, um, just unveil the slate already. It’s not like we don’t know a thing or two about it.

I mean, we can’t be sure, but rumor is we’re looking at perhaps the beefiest Android of that pocket-sized footprint ever, with a stunning 1,920 x 1,080 pix res Triluminos screen in tow, quad-core 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 801 chip and 3 GB RAM under the hood.

Plus, the now customary waterproofing features, pretty much confirmed in the IFA teaser video embedded below. The fast-paced but fairly vague clip uses the number 3 as a sort of motto, authenticating Sony has a trio of gadgets in the pipeline – the Z3 Tablet Compact, plus Z3 and Z3 Compact handhelds.

Unless 3 actually refers to the gizmos’ branding, and a third-generation SmartWatch is also incoming. Maybe a large Xperia Z3 Tablet too. In any case, water is heavily featured in the promo (including in a chemical H2O formula) for obvious reasons, and the September 3 announcement date is quite fitting.

The rest of the video is a little harder to decipher, although Sony seems to be implying one or several of these soon-to-be-revealed products will measure 7 mm in thickness and pack batteries that “keep going” regardless of energy used up. Okay, bring them on, we’re ready.
