The 10 mangas people want their kids to read according to eBook Japan

Japan will be celebrating Children’s Day on May 5 and Japanese eBook store, eBook Japan is joining in on the celebrations by asking several people which manga do they want their children to read?

The results for their survey has finally been released and here are their results:

10) Chihayafuru (Yuki Suigetsu) 9) Naruto (Masashi Kishimoto) 8) Slam Dunk (Takehiko Inoue) 7) Space Brothers (Chuya Koyama) 6) Barefoot Gen (Keiji Nakazawa) 5) Phoenix*(Osamu Tezuka) 4) Dragon Ball (Akira Toriyama) 3) Silver Spoon (Hiromi Arakawa) 2) Doraemon (Fujiko F. Fujio) 1) One Piece (Eiichiro Oda)

It is no surprise that majority of the manga titles which people want their children to read are shounen mangas (mangas for young boys) like #1 One Piece, #4 Dragon Ball, #8 Slam Dunk and #9 Naruto. This may be because these are the mangas people have read themselves as kids. Shounen manga have always proven to be popular among the younger demographic and it seems that is not likely to change any time soon.Comedy manga Doraemon on the other hand is still going strong and is still a classic piece of the Japanese*anime and manga subculture. The series has influenced so many people that it is hardly surprising that the manga is on the list, and at #2 at that.People might also want their kids to learn life lessons like hard work, friendship, and kindness in the other manga titles, most notably Silver Spoon and Space Brothers which can teach people not to work hard yet not burn out themselves, have friends and have a goal in life.Do you agree with their findings? Which manga titles do you want your kids to read?

Render of Amazon's first smartphone leaks

Amazon’s first smartphone is said to come with a hardware assisted 3D tilt effect that allows users to navigate the user interface through gestures.

Amazon has been rumored to be working on a smartphone since the latter half of 2013. The earlier rumors indicated that the retail giant was looking to collaborate with beleaguered handset vendor HTC in launching a mobile device. However, it was later found that Amazon will be looking to manufacture a device on its own.

One of the main differentiating points on Amazon’s smartphone is said to be the inclusion of six cameras, four of which will be used in conjunction with sensors to create a hardware assisted 3D tilt effect. There hasn’t been any information as to how this will be achieved, but the device is said to feature a unique gesture-based navigation system thanks to the bevy of sensors and cameras.

As for the design of the device, the first leaked render shows that Amazon’s smartphone takes a lot of visual cues from other devices already existent in the market. This device will be the first of many that Amazon is looking to launch. Instead of bundling in the latest hardware available, Amazon is looking to a strong digital content medium as well as a new navigation system to drive sales of the handset. The device itself is said to feature a 4.7-inch 720p screen, a*Snapdragon quad-core CPU, 2 GB RAM and a forked version of Android that is similar to the variant Amazon uses on its Kindle line of tablets.

Amazon is rumored to launch its first mobile device sometime next quarter.

Love Live! campaign begins at Lawson; passionate fans stampede to stores

Lawson is a big convenience store chain, and it’s always exciting when they collaborate with a hot anime. When 999 sandwiches disappear from a single store, however, you know there’s something funny going on.

Lawson’s campaign with the anime Love Live! started on Tuesday, and they offered goodies like penlights and clear files for people who bought items at their stores. In addition, they sold limited edition lunch packs, each containing an egg sandwich and tuna sandwich.

It’s a typical list of goods for one of their collaborations, but Love Livers are passionate fans who literally bought out tickets for μ’s’ past two concerts. Lawson knew this, which is why one store crammed the shelves with 999 lunch packs.

That’s a bit overboard, don’t you think? Even if the Japanese like items with pictures of cute anime characters on them, there’s no way a single store can sell 999 lunch packs.

Oh.

On another note, each Lawson store also featured a Love Live! itasha.

This all goes to show that you should never underestimate Love Livers.

On a side note, Love Livers are stampeding to Cure Maid Cafe’s collaborative cafe, too.
