Love Live! campaign begins at Lawson; passionate fans stampede to stores

Lawson is a big convenience store chain, and it’s always exciting when they collaborate with a hot anime. When 999 sandwiches disappear from a single store, however, you know there’s something funny going on.

Lawson’s campaign with the anime Love Live! started on Tuesday, and they offered goodies like penlights and clear files for people who bought items at their stores. In addition, they sold limited edition lunch packs, each containing an egg sandwich and tuna sandwich.

It’s a typical list of goods for one of their collaborations, but Love Livers are passionate fans who literally bought out tickets for μ’s’ past two concerts. Lawson knew this, which is why one store crammed the shelves with 999 lunch packs.

That’s a bit overboard, don’t you think? Even if the Japanese like items with pictures of cute anime characters on them, there’s no way a single store can sell 999 lunch packs.

Oh.

On another note, each Lawson store also featured a Love Live! itasha.

This all goes to show that you should never underestimate Love Livers.

On a side note, Love Livers are stampeding to Cure Maid Cafe’s collaborative cafe, too.

Preview released for Ayana Taketatsu's fifth single Wonderful World [video]

The voice actress of Kirino from OreImo and Leafa from Sword Art Online is releasing her newest single on June 4, but you can hear one and a half minutes of her cute voice now.

Ayana Taketatsu’s fifth single, Wonderful World, is composed by Shuntarou Kobayashi with lyrics written by Kanako Katou, the same duo who wrote one of Taketatsu’s most famous songs, “Rice to Meat You!” (the one that goes “I love beef! I love pork! Rock ‘n’ roast!”). While the new song doesn’t express Ayanyan’s love for meat, it’s still packed with energetic pop tunes.

Wonderful World will be released on June 4 in a standard package (left) and a limited edition (right) with a the full version of the music video above. Taketatsu is also holding a birthday concert on June 22 in Yokohama Amphitheatre, and each copy of Wonderful World will also be packaged with a form to receive a ticket before anyone else.

Nexus 6 to be based off the LG G3, feature a fingerprint sensor

Nexus 6 is said to launch sometime in the second half of*this year, and might be the last such device from Google.

The latest batch of rumors indicate that Google will continue to collaborate with LG when it comes to the Nexus line of mobile devices. Like the Nexus 4 and nexus 5, the Nexus 6 is said to be based off an LG flagship, with this year’s model said to be based on the hardware and design of the as yet unannounced LG G3.

Google’s Sundar Pichai already confirmed that a new Nexus mobile device will launch sometime in the second half of this year, which would indicate that Google is sticking to the same launch cycle as the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 5. Both devices launched sometime at the end of October, so it is likely that we will see the Nexus 6 announcement at the same time this year.

According to Android Geeks, the Nexus 6 will feature a fingerprint authentication system. The device will also likely come with the same hardware as the G3, which would mean a 5.2-inch QHD screen, Snapdragon 805 with a quad-core 2.7 GHz CPU, 3 GB RAM and 16/32 GB internal memory. The slight decrease in screen size from 5.5 inches on the G3 to the 5.2 inches is said to better accommodate the fingerprint sensor in a chassis that is similar to that of the G3. The Nexus 6 is also said to come with the next major version of Android.

This might be the last Nexus mobile device on offer, as Google looks to move away from the Nexus line in lieu of the Android Silver program.

NIS's horror game True Hayarigami coming August 7

Nippon Ichi Software is finally releasing a new installment to their cult mystery horror series, which is good news for NIS fans, whether you’re a fan of Hayarigami or have never heard of it.

The first Hayarigami game was released in 2004 for the PlayStation 2, and spawned two sequels and several ports, the most recent one, Hayarigami 3, being released in 2009. The newly announced installment, True Hayarigami (Shin Hayarigami) will be released on August 7 for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita.

Just like the past games, True Hayarigami is themed around urban legends, and it takes place in the same universe with the same, dark atmosphere and uses familiar gameplay elements like Reasoning Logic and Courage Points. However, the story and characters are completely new, so even newcomers to the series can enjoy it, and there are new features that will keep long-time fans interested.

The previous games contained several independant stories collected like an omnibus, but in True Hayarigami, there is a single story that branches into different arcs with different cases and different perspectives.

Saki Houjou

The protagonist and a 25-year-old police officer in the C branch of S prefecture. She is incredibly optimistic and gets along with everyone. She secretly has a cowardly side, but she never shows it. She is very good at lying, acting, and psychological warfare.

Soujirou Sekimoto

A 36-year-old former college professor who has done extensive research on folklore, especially urban legends. In the beginning of the story, he is in prison for being a suspect of a murder. He claims to have important information on the case and winds up working with Saki on the mystery.

According to the director and composer Kazuya Takasu, True Hayarigami is a horror game for anyone. That is to say, it has something that will scare anyone, whether it’s murder, ghosts, confinement, brainwashing, bugs, psychopaths, etc. (Yes!) Takasu also commented about the scenario, “There is no happy, tearjerking end. I want tears, but I want them to be overflowing, fear-stricken tears of despair.”

(Caution: Scary pictures below!)

By the way, NIS first opened the teaser site for True Hayarigami on April Fool’s Day, then it slowly changed each day. Were you fooled when you first saw it?

New Google Glass teardown reveals $80 build cost

Google Glass might not even cost $100 in bill of materials, according to a new teardown analysis.

A Google Glass teardown from last year revealed that the bill of materials for the device was at $208. Even accounting for the cost involved in customizing the hardware to fit into the unique design of the Glass, the device would not have cost Google more than $250 to manufacture.

At the time, it was believed that the $1500 price for the Glass was to limit the device only to limit access of the device to technology enthusiasts. Google has mentioned last year that a consumer version of Glass would launch later this year, although the price of this device wasn’t mentioned. Considering it comes with similar hardware as the current iteration, it should be around the $300 – $350 mark.

However, a new teardown published by Teardown.com mentions the $200 BOM quoted from last year were too high, and that the hardware used in the Glass amounts to a mere $80. The CPU, a TI OMAP 4430, was the costliest item on the list at $13.96. All the wireless sensors as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios combined accounted for $10.79, while the 5 MP camera was valued in at $5.66. The touchscreen display was said to be one of the costliest components in the Glass, but Teardown’s analysis revealed that it only costs $3.

The website does say that these figures were rough estimates, and that the numbers might change after a thorough review. When contacted, a Google spokesman called Teardown.com’s cost estimate “absolutely wrong.” While Teardown’s estimates might be on the lower side of things, the underwhelming hardware on the Google Glass does bring into question the high cost of the device. With a product like Glass, it is not always down to the cost of the hardware that is included in the device, as other factors, like design, build quality and software features should also be taken into account.
